Gambling Evidence Destroyed

Law enforcement's battle with gambling machines took an interesting turn Thursday.

Henderson County authorities crushed 120 eight liner machines recovered from area businesses. Anytime a person earns more than $5 or ten times what they bet, it's illegal, says Harry White, assistant Henderson County Attorney.

County authorities say the machines have cluttered their warehouse, and now its time to make room for future cases. The eight liners destroyed Thursday came from businesses in Payne Springs and Gun Barrel City. There are still 133 in the warehouse and two cases pending. Each unit is worth about $1500.

Texas outlawed eight liners a few years back, but its taken time to get the cases resolved.

Operating an eight liner is a class-A misdemeanor, punishable up to a year in jail or a $4,000 fine.
