LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - It was a high stakes coffee break in East Texas, Thursday. U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison met with area Republicans in Gregg County at the East Texas Regional Airport. Hutchison made the stop to discuss her campaign for governor, running against fellow Republican Governor Rick Perry, and have coffee with supporters. She made her plans clear as to why she is making the run at the governors office.
"I have watched the Republican party numbers go down and down and down," said Sen. Hutchison. "I think it's no secrete that I wanted to run in 2006, but I stepped outside and have watched the Republican party to be split and a lot of people were worried about that."
Hutchison says she will fulfill her obligations as senator in Washington, then devote her energies full time to campaigning.
