ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - Last week, a seven-year-old girl we was dropped off along a busy highway on the first day of school. The man driving that school bus, has now been fired.
Athens ISD had suspended John Innis indefinitely for not following procedure - dropping a student off at a location without an adult present. Athens ISD says Innis was fired on Friday. Sierra Kaufman was supposed to be dropped off at her home. But, the driver left her alone in front of her parent's business instead. She was then forced to walk home alone along a busy highway in Athens.
"With no adult or parent present when a student's dropped off, they're to bring the students back to the bus barn, and he violated that policy and he's been released from employment," said Annette Faulk, a spokesperson for Athens ISD.
Sierra's parents said their daughter was so terrified from the incident that she is too afraid to ride the bus. Her parents now take her to and from school.
