Everyone's talking about the movie"Julie and Julia" and Meryl Streep's brilliant portrayal of Julia Child, the woman who brought french cooking into American homes. But in Longview, when they talk about Julia Child they talk about Julia and the Stockpot.

From March of 1980 until February of 1986, "The Stockpot" in Longview brought in the top chefs in the world to teach Texas women the art of cooking. But Julia Child's visit in 1982 was the most coveted cooking school of all.

The owners of The Stockpot Claire Foster, Betty Davis LLoyd Hurst, and Patricia Houston, who passed away in 1994, first met Julia in the South of France and formed an instant friendship. At 6'2" with a size 13 shoe, Child was bigger than life in multiple ways, and all the Texas women who met her at The Stockpot have colorful memories of her vis
