HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) - It's located a few miles out of town but the drive is well worth it. For more than 10 years the Store and Moore has lived up to its name by carrying on that of another. In the 1950's Mack and Trixies Burger Shop in Henderson sold burgers for $.15. Today, the cost has changed but the taste hasn't.
"We do the burgers like they used to do," said Patsy Moore. "We still have the recipe."
Part of the recipe is in the process. Each patty is pushed flat with a coke bottle. I gave it a try and found it was probably best to leave it to the experts. The champion double cheeseburger, chips, and a can drink only puts you out $4.87.
My second stop took me to the aptly named Frank-n-Burger. The bright sign catches your eye, and the food takes care of your appetite. I placed my order and saw it served up. A chili cheese dog with all the trimmings, a small fry and small fountain drink was only $4.96.
A few miles away right off the highway lies a smoked meat paradise. 29 years and seven months ago Bob Allen, owner of Bob's Bar-b-que, started sharing his favorite food with others.
"It was so good to me I thought I'd venture out and see if anyone else liked it, and it's been a bam ever since," said Allen.
Working alongside wife Billie, Bob whips up brisket, ribs, and your third Cheap Eat.
Just smelling the sausage and the sauce brought me to Cheap Eats Rule # 14: There is hardly ever a smoked meat that fails to be a tasty treat.
The single link sandwich, chips and a drink cost you only $4.47. Making Bob's and Billie's Bar-b-que this Cheap Eats champion.
