TYLER, TX (KLTV) - In a unanimous decision, TJC board members voted to increase their district tax rate by nearly one full cent. The vote raises the tax rate to about 13.7 cents per $100 value of your house, up from 12.7 cents. Board members held public meetings to get input from homeowners and TJC community members. But, TJC president Mike Metke says the board did not have much opposition.
"I think people understand the need to preserve the college," said Metke. "This is a jewel in the community. We're not asking for new buildings or new space, we're wanting to take care of what we have."
Metke says the additional money will go into a College Preservation Fund to help with future maintenance and utility projects.
