GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas store owner is back home, nearly a week after a shootout with robbers. Gladewater resident Imtiaz Hussain suffered wounds on both hands, which blocked the robber's bullet from hitting him in the head. Police released surveillance video of that shootout which, while not graphic, is still violent in nature.

It started out like a normal night for Imtiaz Hussain. He was closing his convenient store around 10 last Wednesday when suddenly, it turned into a night that would change his life forever.

"So, I was talking to my wife, and suddenly one guy came in here and had a gun [saying,] 'Give me your money!" said Hussain.

Two armed men tried to rob Hussain. But, before they could, Hussain grabbed his gun and fired at one of the suspects.

"I had to save myself," said Hussain. "I don't care about him."

The suspect then shot back, but Hussain put his hands and gun up just in the nick of time.

"They (his hands) saved me, because I'm like this, and when it hit me, it hit my guns and my hand," said Hussain.

He was taken to a hospital in Dallas, and came home Sunday evening to find a community embrace him.

"It almost brought me to tears because I am real close to him," said Steven Johnston, a customer. "I thought it was terrible. I am actually shocked to see him back in here so soon."

Considering his injuries, his spirits remain intact.

"That is part of life," said Hussain. "You can go anywhere and it is scary for you. You can drive and someone can hit you. What do you do? Do you stop driving? No."

Police are still looking for the suspects for now. Business continues as usual and Hussain is determined to stay strong.

"Next time, I don't want a mistake," said Hussain. "I will just shoot him right away."

Mr. Hussain will go back to Dallas Wednesday for another surgery. If you have any information on the robbery, call Gladewater police.
