Ex-New York Giant pleads guilty to gun charge

(KLTV) - In November of 2008, then New York Giant, Plaxico Burress, walked into a New York nightclub with a gun in his waistband. Unfortunately for him and the team, that gun slipped down his pant leg and went off, shooting Burress in the leg and narrowly missing a nightclub security guard.

Now, after months of negotiating with the New York District Attorney's Office, the former Giant has pled guilty to a weapons charge. He has been sentenced to serve two years in prison.

"This was not an intentional criminal act," Burress's lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said in a Fox News article. "In my judgment, a two-year prison sentence is a very severe punishment."

Authorities say Burress's sentence could be reduced to 20 months for good behavior.
