23 year old Private First Class Jon Mason is home on leave in Kilgore, returning from duty at the D.M.Z. in Korea, but returning to an uncertain future. The rifleman from Bravo Company of the 506th is scheduled to be discharged in August, but if wartime status is declared, he could be on active duty until further notice, being infantry could be rotated to the Middle East and possibly Iraq.
But Mason is steadfast about doing what he and others like him signed up to do and can't understand those who are protesting possible war. If he is not held over for extended duty, he plans to join the national guard and go back to college.
