Two-a-Day Tour: Longview Lobos

By Coleman Swierc - bio | email

LONGVIEW, TEXAS (KLTV) - It may seem like another year in Longview.

But 2009 will be anything but, this year, Longview is the team to beat, and they know it.

"Expectations are always big here," said quarterback Aaron Johnson, "it just so happens that this year we are expected to go all the way, and we are."

One win away from a title in 2008, has Longview fuming.

"Practice is intense," said lineman Bryce Redman, "if we do not practice the way we do, and there is no intensity, then it is not a good practice."

"We love to hit," said defensive lineman Teddarius Vactor, "we hit all the time, and we want to be able to turn practice into game, and let people know that you are going to get wrung up when you play us."

The Lobos love hitting, and they love it, unless you are on the J.V.

"It is funny to watch them, they are just out there standing around and getting pounded," said Vactor.

"I remember when I was on it," said Johnson, "it wasnt any fun then, but now that I am doing the hitting it is fun now."

The fun for the Lobos will begin on August 28th, when they face defending 5A champion Allen.

"I really loved wearing the orange when I wore it, but I'm awful glad to wearing purple and gold right now. Kids did a great job of being here all summer long. That in itself tells me they want to be successful," said Joe Drennon, Bobcats head football coach. It journey won't be easy. The Hallsville Bobcats are coming off a rough 2016 season where they only came out victorious twice.  "We can't control what's gone on it the past. What we got to do ...More >>
