Cash for Clunkers back on track

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It's becoming a sign of the summertime - gasoline prices are up again. Texas AAA says statewide averages have a gallon going for 2.50, continuing to mirror the rise in world oil prices. Gas prices along with some attractive rebates motivated the success of the Cash for Clunker rebate program.

The first weekend after the additional two billion, East Texas car dealers we spoke to say business is still booming. The program burned through it's first million in 10 days and we're told customers are still flocking to dealerships for promised rebates.

"We did 5 of the cash for clunker deals yesterday, and we've done two already today," said Craig Smith or Tyler Ford. "We've really seen an increase in traffic and it's really helped our business quite a bit, and I think it's a great program, and I appreciate the government going for it and doing it."

The government is hoping the extra two billion lasts longer than the first, estimating the program should be good through labor day.
