TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A freak accident kills one person and injures another. It all happened just after 5 Friday afternoon along the 3800 block of Troup Highway in Tyler. That's right across from the Chick-Fil-A.
It's rush-hour along the heavily traveled, Troup highway when Tyler police get a call of a pedestrian accident. What they discovered on the scene, was horrifying. Two victims; one dead, the other severely wounded.
They were both just sitting and waiting for their bus when a tow truck passed by and something went terribly wrong.
"Only thing we know at this time is that the vehicle being towed broke loose from the wrecker and everything else is under investigation," said Tyler police Lieutenant Jimmy Toler.
When the car broke loose from the wrecker, it basically caused the tow truck to jackknife and plow right into the bus stop. Now mangled metal is all that's left and one life is tragically taken.
The man who was killed has just been identified as 47-year old Clayton Allen of Tyler.
Police say the second victim, 46-year old Bruce Williams, was transported to Trinity Mother Francis Hospital and treated for injuries. He is expected to make a complete recovery.
