Two-a-Day Tour: Bullard Panthers

Bullard, Texas (KLTV) - Bullard coach Jim Taylor knows Bullard has the talent.

"Our kids have been fairly successful in our athletics program, but in football we haven't been to the playoffs in quite a while."

That may been an understatement.

"Just a quick guess, 20 years or so," Taylor answered when asked if he knew how long it had been since Bullard was in the playoffs.

Actually, more like 15 years, and the gap, spans generations.

"Everyone of my brothers never made the playoffs," said wide receiver Kolby Greene, "but I am hoping to do that in football."

15 years without playing an 11th game, and one of the toughest districts around, has many overlooking the Panthers, a scenario that Bullard embraces.

"Nobody thinks that we are going to win a game in district," said Greene, "and I would love to just show the people that we can and how we can do it."

"It would mean a lot to this team, because that is what our goal is, to make it to the playoffs, because we haven't been there in a while," said wide out and running back Daniel Howard, "I think we will be able to compete with them this year."

And not being there, provides the Panthers with the opportunity to breakthrough, and avoid any other generational playoff gaps

"Iit is kind of like a circle," said Taylor, "to get into the playoffs you need confidence, and yet when you get in there, that is the biggest builder of confidence."

Stephen f. Austin head football coach Clint Conque paid a visit to the Rose City this afternoon. It's perfect timing to pump up the program, considering the Jacks are coming off a dramatic last second win over Incarnate Word. Put on by the alumni association, Conque was the featured speaker at a Lumberjack networking event. Coach Conque got to brag a little about SFA's first victory of the year. Not to mention that despite a rough non-conference, the Jacks are 1-0 in South...More >>

Last Friday night, the Lufkin Panthers defeated No.12 John Tyler 44-34. It was a surprise to everyone, but the Panthers.  "We see that we're good. Most people, a lot of people doubted us. We are getting better and better each week and we know that we got to get better and better each day," said March Thomas, senior defensive lineman.   "All the hard work payed off.
