WELLS, TX (KLTV) - Controversy is surrounding the small East Texas town of Wells. The current mayor of the town, Corbitt Doss says his fate isn't looking too good. That's after former Wells mayor, Jim Maddux, brought to light, Tuesday, Doss' felony conviction for a third DWI back in 1997. Originally, Doss said that he was legally able to hold the office of mayor because he served his sentence. But now, Maddux has called for an investigation by the city council, and Doss says he may be forced to step down.
"If it comes down to it, the powers that be say I got to go, I'll quit, but until somebody tells me that officially, I'm going to stay mayor," said Doss.
A Wells city council member tells us a meeting will be held at city hall next Monday to determine if Doss needs to resign.
