Samples of bubonic plague reported stolen from Texas Tech lab

Lubbock, Texas-AP -- Someone's reportedly on the loose with samples of bubonic plague.

A Texas newspaper (Lubbock Avalanche-Journal) reports samples of the deadly disease were stolen from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

There's no word on exactly how many vials are missing.

The plague is spread when people are bitten by a rodent flea carrying the bacteria, or when people handle an infected animal.

It can be treated with antibiotics.
