House of Hope faces new hurdle

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas women's shelter that overcame one money hurdle has a new financial problem. Just weeks ago, organizers of the House of Hope Women's Shelter in Longview purchased the land and the building they occupy. Now, they need more funding to replace the aging electrical system so they can expand to help more women.

"As soon as we get the sprinkler system and the alarm system wired in and the kitchen re-done over on this side and the laundry room on the other end of that kitchen, we're going to start our two story family building," said sister Helen Johnson, the shelter's executive director.

Around 60 women are sheltered at the House of Hope. Organizers will announce fund-raising events in the coming weeks.
