Released by JoAnn Lutmer-Paulson with the Salvation Army in Tyler:

For the last few months, the Women's Auxiliary of The Salvation Army has sponsored a special spiritual opportunity for the Tyler community by making available an all-inclusive trip for two to the Holy Land. The winner will be escorted by Dr. David and Cindy Dykes of Green Acres Baptist Church. The trip is valued at $7,200 and will take place from November 1-10, 2009.

Ticket sales began at the Chili Bowl, an annual event hosted by the Women's Auxiliary as a fundraiser for the programs of The Salvation Army. Tickets sold for $10 apiece by Auxiliary members and at Hastings Books and Music, The Scroll Bookstore, and Lifeway Christian Bookstore. On July 2nd, the drawing was held at Chick-Fil-A on South Broadway; the winner was Judy Soules. Present at the ticket presentation July 29th were Captains Zach and Shelley Bell of The Salvation Army, Henrietta Grooms (President of the Women's Auxiliary), Emily Belue (2009 Chili Bowl Auction Co-Chair), Judy Soules, and Ed King. Not available for presentation were Pamela Walters (2009 Chili Bowl Auction Co-Chair) and Jim Perkins.

The Salvation Army's Women's Auxiliary wishes to thank Mr. Ed King of Chick-Fil-A and Mr. Jim Perkins of Citizens First Bank who sponsored this amazing trip. Thanks also to the bookstores that sold tickets as well as all members of our community who purchased them. The needs of the poor in our community continue to grow daily; all who purchased tickets are helping to care for those among us most desperate in need. Lastly, best wishes for a safe and spiritual journey to John and Judy Soules as well as Dr. David and Cindy Dykes.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
