Many smaller restaurants in Longview now have a difficult and expensive decision to make. Do they become smoke free, or do they risk financial strain to comply with a non smoking ordinance?
For ten years Jo Young has run the family restaurant, Jo's Highway 80 grill in Longview. She has built a small but steady client base, many who smoke.
Young is faced with a choice, designate her business as smoking only, which will not allow anyone under 18 to be served, and will eliminate families with children or seal off a section of her restaurant for smoking customers, which she can't afford to do.
All restaurants will have to comply with the new ordinance by September first of this year.
