Kilgore Man Scammed Out of Thousands

An 87-year old Kilgore man lost more than 6-thousand dollars after giving "up front" money to men claiming to be roofing contractors.  Police say the three men approached their victim's home December 18th.

They told him his roof needed to be repaired. Then, they asked for money in advance to buy materials. 87 year old Don Meabon, a decorated World War 2 veteran, trusted the men and gave them a check for supplies. Two of the men, seen on Kilgore bank surveillance video, cashed the check for 67-hundred dollars, and have not been seen again. Don Meabon is now hospitalized for an unspecified illness. And his family's furious that someone would take advantage of Meabon's trusting nature. Investigators ask that if you have seen any of the suspects, please call Kilgore police or local crimestoppers.
