A childish prank, or an act of vandalism is blamed for a spill early this morning that dumped thousands of gallons of oil near a Longview creek. Around 7:15 Friday morning, oil was discovered spewing from holding tanks at M.C. production and drilling on Brent road.
Investigators say someone deliberately opened valves on the tanks, allowing more than 8,000 gallons of oil to leak out. Emergency response teams were called out to contain the spill before it damaged a nearby creek. The spill is a considerable cost to the company. A spokesperson says the spill will cost and estimated $30,000 to $50,000. Ninety-eight percent of the spill has already been cleaned up.
