Winning isn't everything

Athens, TX (KLTV) - Don't call Debbie McMinn a coach.  She's a teacher.

"This is not about tennis," said McMinn.  "It's about life and respect and education."

A year ago, McMinn and the Cain Center started a tennis program hoping for 20 kids.  They ended up with 152.

"I've improved so much from last year," said Madison Wilcher.  "When I started as a beginner I knew nothing."

Miss Debbie, as the kids call her, doesn't care about winning.  She measures wins by success off the court. Like 12 year old Christian England.

"Last year he was a little argumentative, felt out of place," said McMinn.  "His grandmother says tennis has given him a place and opportunity. He made all A's and B's this year in school."

"You get your grades better, because if you get your grades better you can go to more places," said England.  "It teaches you about sportsmanship and telling the truth."

The truth is, these kids love tennis.
