SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A man left a Smith County vegetable stand with some watermelons and some cash, after robbing the stand at gun-point.
The robber stopped by the stand on FM 1252 in northeast Smith County Wednesday afternoon. He allegedly bought three watermelons from the young man who was working at the stand, then pulled a shotgun on him. The owner of the stand says it's the first time something like this has happened and that it would have happened differently if he had been there.
"I don't think this man would have confronted me that way," said farmer Billy Raibon, the stand's owner. "Even if he had, I would have given him the money, but he probably would have been very sorry later on because he wouldn't have gotten away."
The owner says the armed robber got away with only about $50 or $100.
