With only one day left before the Longview City Council votes on a controversial smoking ordinance opposing sides are at it again, arguing their opinions on the subject.
Wednesday morning, the heated debate continued over what, if any, changes needed to be made in a proposed "zero tolerance ordinance" that would ban all smoking in public buildings. A flurry of public outcry now has the council considering an alternative ordinance that would permit smoking in night clubs and restaurants, provided that a wall separates smoking and non-smoking areas.
Business owners still argue that its more government interference. While opposition argues it would be a reasonable move to respect the health of non-smokers-- specifically children.
A revised ordinance would allow smoking in restaurants and night clubs, provided that they are totally separated from non-smoking areas and have proper ventilation.
