In the first draft, smoking would be banned in all public places; now Longview has a new proposal. It would restrict smoking in certain businesses including restaurants that do not sell alcohol, hotel common areas, and cabs.
The city sponsored a poll on their web site asking for the publics view on smoking in different types of businesses. At times the results, seem to contradict each other.
When asked should smoking be banned in all restaurants?
67% said yes; 33% say no.
But when asked if smoking should be allowed in restaurants with bars with separate ventilation systems.
62% said yes and 38% said no.
The last public hearing regarding the issue is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 8:30 in the city council chambers.
