UPDATE: Findings from Kilgore firefighter death released

Posted by Ellen Krafve - email

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - Investigators have finally released the findings of their investigation in the tragic deaths of two Kilgore firefighters in January. Firefighters Kyle Perkins and Cory Galloway were killed when they fell from an aerial platform exercise at Kilgore College on January 25th. The fire fighters were participating in an exercise to familiarize them with a newly purchased 95-foot mid-mount aerial platform truck.

The investigation shows the platform became stuck on the concrete parapet wall at the top of the building. During attempts to free the platform, the aerial ladder sprung back and threw the two firefighters out, dropping them 83 feet to the ground. The official report cites the firefighters "unfamiliarity with apparatus, and no restraint devices in use" as among the factors leading to the fatalities.

A press conference has been called for Friday in Kilgore where investigators will discuss their findings.
