LINDALE, TX - Lindale ISD is leading the way for alternative fuel use as the first school district in East Texas to purchase new propane school buses for their fleet.

Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams and other TRC representatives will be in Lindale on July 27th to recognize the district for their use of alternative fuel. The TRC will present LISD with $61,890 in incentives for the purchase of those buses. The incentives were made available through the TRC and Rush Enterprises.

The district receives 50 cents per gallon in a federal tax credit for every gallon of propane used in its buses. That brings LISD's cost per gallon to $1.01, compared to $1.73 for diesel. LISD has reduced harmful nitrogen oxide emissions by 4.1 tons by replacing older diesel buses.
