Longview Regional’s Healthy Woman Program to Celebrate

Join Longview Regional Medical Center (LRMC) for the one-year anniversary of Healthy Woman, a free community resource featuring a series of monthly seminars, educational programs and interactive events that focus on the emotional, physical and fiscal well-being of women of all ages. The program's mission is to empower women with the knowledge and confidence to make informed healthcare and well-being decisions for themselves and their loved ones. Longview Regional's Healthy Woman program is currently over 1,500 strong.

Healthy Woman will celebrate an incredible year with a night of magnificence and laughter on Thursday, August 13, 2009. The anniversary celebration will feature speaker Lisa Smartt, who will speak on the topic:  "Hope for Women Who Can't Find Their Keys:  Confessions of an Imperfect Woman."  Mrs. Smartt is an author who writes about small-town life and the emotional roller coaster ride of marriage and parenting. Lisa Smartt is a 45-year-old woman who loves to laugh!  Born in a small town in West Kentucky, she now writes a weekly humor column from her home outside Dresden, Tennessee.  She lives on 16 wooded acres with her husband of 21 years, two sons (who sometimes fight), and an emotionally disturbed male cat.  Her first book was released in 2007 entitled, "The Smartt View:  Life, Love, and Cluttered Closets."  Public speaking is Lisa's passion and she has spoken to groups around the country on subjects like "Contentment in a Discontent World" and "We're All in the Same Boat, So Grab a Lifeline."  Lisa believes laughter is a gift and LOVES to share with others her personal weaknesses, struggles, and the sheer JOY of daily living!

Healthy Woman will celebrate a year of growth on August 13, 2009 at Maude Cobb Activity Center. A FREE Women's Health EXPO, including, health information and demonstrations, partner exhibits and giveaways, will take place from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., followed by a Dinner Program and Speaker at 6:30 p.m., featuring special guest Lisa Smartt. The cost for the Dinner Program and Speaker Event is $15.00 per person or a reserved table of 8 for $100.00.

For one year, Longview Regional Medical Center's Healthy Woman program has empowered women in our area to support a healthy body, mind and spirit for themselves and their loved ones.  With nearly a year since the kick off, Longview Regional's Healthy Woman's free program has offered seminars, educational programs and interactive events that focus on women, health and lifestyle. The program is dedicated to improving the emotional, physical and fiscal well-being of both women and the families for which they care.

The 2009 monthly Healthy Woman presentations have covered everything from physical and emotional healthcare, financial well-being, tax preparation, car maintenance and care, interior design, fitness, spiritual development and other life balance issues. Healthcare topics include pertinent information on heart disease, colon cancer, smoking cessation, nutrition, breast cancer awareness, depression and stress management. And we end the year with a Holiday Party - Women's Night Out!

"We want the women of Longview and the surrounding communities to understand the needs of their health and their loved ones so they are able to make informed healthcare decisions," said Cheryl Davis, Healthy Woman Coordinator for LRMC. A Healthy Woman's Advisory Council (HWAC) of 13 local businesswomen have served the hospital for the past year and helped identify areas in which women in our community have concerns and/or interests.  An additional 4 ladies were added to the Council this year.
