TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas boy is struggling to stay alive, and his family is trying to stay financially afloat.

13-year-old Kris Bond has contracted two deadly diseases. When he was flown to Dallas' children's hospital, doctors discovered Kris not only had viral meningitis, but encephalitis, as well.

At one point, Kris was unable to move or speak for a week. His last round of various medications however has Kris showing signs of improvement.

"We just waited by his bedside and very bluntly we didn't know if he was going to live or not," said Kris's father, Keith Bond. "Doctors were just trying to diagnose everything. It's just a matter of time to keep him alive long enough to find a cure and make a correct diagnosis."

Hospital costs for Kris come close to $10,000 a day. Friends have set up a fund to help the family.

Contact the Lindale state bank and ask for the Kris Bond Medical Fund.
