TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The fire department said no to birthday candles, which would have been something to see.
That's because Elizabeth Pendleton celebrated her one 103rd birthday at Reunion Plaza in Tyler. A cake, minus candles and plenty of balloons helped commemorate the occasion. Pendleton was even serenaded by a singing cowboy. Pendleton grew up right down the road in Farmersville. She loved her hometown, living there her whole life.
"She has just brought pure joy here," said Laura Slaughter, activities director at Reunion Plaza. "Just to see her smile everyday is a blessing. She's just the sweetest lady you will ever meet. She loves children. She loves pets."
Pendleton attended Baylor University and worked for the New Mexico Electric Company for 40 years.
