Alzheimer's is a terrible disease that affects more than 2 million people in the U-S and East Texas is not immune from its ravages. The toll that this progressive disease takes on its victims impacts entire families, sometimes for decades. With an aging population in our area resulting in an increase in the disease, it is out of this growing need that we name the Alzheimer's Alliance of Northeast Texas as KLTV's Community Spotlight for July. The Alzheimer's Alliance stands ready with support for families battling Alzheimer's. Serving 16 counties in East Texas, the Alliance offers family support groups, a respite care assistance program, tracking and identification of patients, a caregiver hotline and more. The annual Alzheimer's Walk in October raises money and awareness about the disease while offering supporters a warm and fun event. Chances are, you know someone suffering from Alzheimer's disease, so get more information by following the links on our Commmunity Spotlight section of kltv.com, or call the Alliance directly. Treatment for Alzheimer's is changing rapidly so your time and money can make a big difference.
