ELDERVILLE, TX (KLTV) - In June, 10-year-old Justin Clinton was mauled to death by, what authorities say, were two pit bulls. This horrific event prompted one East Texas community to make a change with the hope of better protecting their friends and family.

The Airport Garden Ranchettes community in Elderville requested Rusk County Commissioners to approve a leash law for their area. As East Texans gathered outside the courthouse in support of the proposal, inside commissioners deliberated.

After hearing several testimonies from different officials and citizens, commissioners unanimously passed the proposal.

The law applies to all dogs in the Airport Garden Ranchettes community in Elderville.
