EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - My first stop of the day was in Longview. Don't let the name fool you. Little Mexico had some big deals. I started to walk inside, but not before noticing a sign advertising a possible Cheap Eat. Manager Hortencia Martinez filled me in.
"I know with the kids being out of school, the parents are at home," said Martinez. "It's nice to have a special like that so the parents can come in and eat with the kids for a good meal at a cheap price."
The advertised special was created in short order; a flash of hands and toppings. You get a crispy taco, beans, rice, and a tea for $5 flat.
I headed west for my next discovery - a spot catering exclusively to cheap eaters. There was not a lot of mystery there...tacos! Cancun Ray's sign said it all. Bring your cash with and you'll only have to wait a minute on your order. A big burrito and a can drink runs you $4.96.
For the home stretch I followed one of your tips to a future Cheap Eats hall of famer. Look for the shiny banner surrounding It'll Do Deli and head inside. Opening three months ago owners Kevin and Julie Richardson make a good team and an even better sandwich.
"This is something Julie and I thought up on the back patio," said Kevin.
While Kevin takes orders, Julie goes to work crafting unique sandwiches, like the Seaside and Bada Bing. I snuck a few peeks of my order, the House Sandwich, as it was put together. Minutes later, I got my order and found your Cheap Eats winner. It was a House Sandwich, chips, pickle, and a drink for only $4.20.
