An engineering report shows the groundwater and soil at the future site of a Longview Wal-Mart is contaminated. After a long battle, developers finally got approval from the city council to build the supercenter off Gilmer road. But a recent report by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality shows the ground water and soil carries traces of diesel and/or gasoline.
Homeowners in the community fought the original proposal, with no luck. So plans moved forward to put the store at Gilmer road between Evergreen street and Reel road. Construction is scheduled to begin within two months. No word on what effect this environmental report will have on the project.
