East Texan announces re-election bid

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Smith County Judge Joel Baker announced his intent to seek re-election to a crowd of more than 100 supporters during a fundraiser Thursday night at Hollytree Country Club.

Baker thanked his many supporters and spoke about his desire to continue working for the citizens of Smith County.

"I am awed and humbled by the support you have shown me," Baker told the crowd. "We still have a lot of work to do in Smith County, and I hope to continue the good work we have started."

Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham also addressed the crowd, saying Baker had helped his office by providing needed resources. Supporter Harold Beard spoke about how Baker had brought the Commissioner's Court together to work on problems facing the county.

Baker's finance committee raised more than $51,000 during the event Thursday night.

The finance committee members include: Jeff Austin III, Brian Ballard, C.C. Baker Jr., Lindsey Bradley, Herb Buie, R.C. Curtis, Elmer G. Ellis, Mary Elizabeth Jackson, B.G. Hartley, Gaylord Hughey, Michael J. Klouda, M.D., James I. Perkins, A.W. "Whit" Riter III, Felicity Reedy, Sheriff J.B. Smith, Harold Beard and Patrick D. Willis co-chairs. Additional committee volunteers included: Sara and Tom Escoe, Vicki Smith, Laura Zorn, Liz Ballard, Melanie Baker and Martha Murray.
