TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Around 9, Saturday night, 15-year-old Leann Morrison was walking with a group of friends down Oak Street in Eustace. She was less than half a block from home when she was hit by an intoxicated driver. From her hospital bed at East Texas Medical Center, in Tyler, the quick thinking teen told her incredible story.

"I just yelled, 'move,' and I just pushed her," said Leann.

She shoved her friend out of harm's way, but Leann could not save herself.

"At first, I was like, a car's coming let's get out of the way," said Leann. "Then it just started swerving."

Leann says she and her group of friends tried moving to the opposite side of the street every time the truck moved. 34-year-old Bruce Sawyer was behind the wheel.

Leann's twin sister, Heather witnessed everything just yards down the street.

"The first thing I thought was, 'This is my sister. I can't live without her. She can't die on me.'" said Heather.

"They said I like flipped three times in the air," said Leann.

"And I was just thinking, if God's going to take her, then please take me quick," said Heather.

A friend called Leann's mother moments later.

"She says, 'Leann's been hit,'" said Leann's mom, Wendy. "And, I said, 'What do you mean she's been hit? And then we lost connection."

She beat the ambulance to the hospital. Leann is unable to walk right now. Her shattered pelvis is broken in three places and now held together by rods and pins. Because a broken wrist was not enough, she got poison ivy while laying on the side of the road.

"I wish that I could take the pain away from her," said Heather.

"All the unconditional love...it's just above and beyond and just so extreme," said Wendy.

"This is the time you find out who your true friends are...and I've got a lot of them," said Leann.

As for the driver...

"I forgive him for it," said Leann. "It was his fault, but I don't blame him for anything."

"I can only hope and pray that he realizes what he's done...and will want to make a change for himself," said Wendy.

"I'm grateful it was just me that got hurt," said Leann.

Spoken like a true hero.

Eustace police arrested Bruce Sawyer for intoxicated assault and theft by check after the accident. He bonded out later that night.
