Road closures beginning Wednesday could last a month authorities say

Released by Susan Guthrie with the City of Tyler:

Due to construction on the Grande Phase 2A Project, Reynolds & Kay, LTD., contractor for this project will be closing Sutherland Drive from Barbee Drive to Hampton Hill Drive beginning Wednesday, June 17. The closure is necessary so that modifications to the medians and curb, and installation of concrete pavement in the intersection of Grande and Sutherland can be completed.

During the closure, residents living in the area between Hampton Hills Road and Rieck Road will need to access their homes off Rieck Road and residents south of the Grande and Sutherland intersection will need to access their homes off south Broadway by means of Barbee Drive or Robert E. Lee. There will be access from Barbee Drive through to Wellington Drive.

It is possible that this intersection could be closed up to one month.

Signs have been placed at the intersections and flyers have been placed on residents' doors providing information about the impending closure.

"The City will be working closely with the contractor to maintain a tight schedule to get the intersection back up and functioning as quickly as possible," said Carter Delleney, City engineer. "We appreciate the patience of the citizens and apologize for the inconvenience. This closure is necessary so that the existing intersection can be replaced with an improved paving surface and tie in."

This phase of work is one of the final pieces of the Grande 2A project which runs from Sutherland east to Paluxy. The opening is anticipated to occur soon after the completion of the work at this intersection.
