SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Texas Department of State Health Services and local public health officials confirmed the first case of H1N1 Influenza in Smith County.

Officials with the Northeast Texas Public Health District say the patient lives in Tyler and has had no history of travel, or contact with a known case.  The patient is a child that does not attend school, or daycare and has completely recovered.

This confirmation came just prior to Thursday's declaration by the World Health Organization that the H1N1 Influenza is now considered a level six global flu pandemic.  According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the declaration does not change what the United States is doing to keep people healthy.  The Northeast Texas Public Health District recommends that citizens stay up to date on news regarding the H1N1 situation.
