TYLER, TX (KLTV) - In less than 24 hours "The Big Switch" becomes official. Friday at 9am KLTV 7 will be shutting off the analog signal after broadcasting more than 50 years. This is a special message to those of you with converter boxes. You are prepared...almost.

There are a few key steps you'll need to do to pick up our digital signal.

You saw the ads, you got the coupons now hopefully you've got the converter box, preparing your TV for the Big Switch.

"Tomorrow at 9am the analog signal which has been on air since 1954 will turn off," said KLTV and KTRE chief engineer, Butch Adair. "At the same time the existing digital signal will shut down and change frequencies."

Adair says the change of digital frequencies Friday morning is a fancy name with a simple fix.

"If you're watching KTRE on an antenna and you're using either a converter box or a TV you'll have to rescan," explained Adair. "Any person with a converter box on an antenna will have to rescan their converter box to find KLTV back on channel 7."

Now, there are about 80 different models of converter boxes out there but they all operate generally the same way. For demonstration purposes we used the popular RCA model. To rescan it was simple. I used the remote control and clicked menu. The menu popped up and then I scrolled down to options and clicked OK. There, I could see the channel scan. I clicked on that and the converter box re-scanned the digital frequencies. Friday at 9am it will pick up the new digital frequencies of KLTV and KTRE.

It's important to note not everyone will have to search for channels 9 or 7.

"If you're on satellite or cable, you'll not have to do anything there will be no change," said Adair. "The key is if you're on an antenna and using either a converter box or a digital TV you will have to rescan."
