WebXtra: The return of the dragon

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - It's not your typical target for thieves, but one Jacksonville pet store owner says it has happened to her more than once. Her Bearded Dragons turn up missing, taken right from their cages.

Last Friday, Sandi Catlett, owner of The Pet Store in Jacksonville says a couple came in to look at the Bearded Dragons. Catlett says they seemed interested, but decided to buy something else. While the woman was paying at the register, Catlett says the man disappeared behind the merchandise rack and all of a sudden left the store abruptly. That's when she noticed her baby Bearded Dragon was gone.

"I walked out to the parking lot, and they were in their car, and I tapped on the window and said, 'I think you have my Bearded Dragon'," said Catlett. "He denied it."

Catlett says earlier in the year, someone stole two of her adult Bearded Dragons. Fortunately, Catlett says the couple had a change of heart and brought the baby dragon back to the store.

"We were working late last night, and I got a phone call from the lady and she said, 'your baby Bearded Dragon is in front of your store,' and I went out there and there he was in a little butter cup," said Catlett.

Catlett says she's thrilled the dragon is back safe, but knows the outcome could have been much different.

Coming up tonight on KLTV 7 News at 6 p.m., we'll tell you more about the Bearded Dragon.
