Why do I need to rescan?

On June 12th , KLTV-TV will make the "Big Switch."  We currently broadcast in both analog and digital signals, but on June 12th we will solely broadcast in digital. We will also change what channel frequency that we broadcast digitally.  In order for digital converter boxes and televisions to see this change, you must rescan. 

This change will affect every TV that receives KLTV-TV, regardless of what type of signal your TV receives. 

Over the air Users:
If you receive KLTV-TV through digital broadcast (i.e., you have a digital converter box or you have a relatively new TV that receives digital signals), you will need to perform a channel scan in order to receive KLTV-TV. 

Digital converter boxes, tuners and TV's have a built in function that allows you to rescan for digital signals.  On the morning of June 12th, you will need to rescan your converter box or digital TV. With most converter boxes and digital televisions, select the menu button on your remote and select the option that allows you to scan for digital channels. 

Why do I need to rescan?  On the morning of June 12th, KLTV-TV will not only end its analog broadcast, but we will also change what channel frequency that we broadcast digitally.  In order for digital converter boxes and televisions to see this change, you must rescan. 

Analog Users:
If you receive KLTV-TV through analog broadcast, you must get a digital converter box in order to continue watching KLTV-TV after June 12th.  The U.S. Department of Commerce has $40 coupons available to ease the cost of a new converter box. 

You can request a coupon while supplies last in one of four ways:

Cable or Satellite Users:
If you receive KLTV-TV through paid services, cable or satellite, you will most likely see the least amount of change.  On the morning of June 12th, depending on how area cable companies and satellite providers are taking our signal and passing it on to you, they may need to reprogram/rescan as well.  If you notice a problem with our channel on cable on the morning of June 12th, please contact your provider directly.
