LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Wild costumes, hooting crowds and dictionaries galore could be seen at an annual East Texas event to promote literacy.

It's the 18th annual Bee for Literacy at Pine Tree Junior High School in Longview. 16 corporate teams faced off in a spelling bee to raise money for the East Texas Literacy Council. Cheering sections, and unique costumes accented the event, and the participants did their best at words they rarely use.

"They come, they spell and support literacy so that we have the tools and have the financial support so that those in our community who need skills can get them," said Jennifer Slade, the executive director of East Texas Literacy Council.

For the third year in a row, the U.T. Tyler Longview University Center won the spelling bee.
