More "trashy tire troubles" in East Texas

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - More "trashy tire troubles" in East Texas. Residents on the 700 block of Mary Lawson Road in Longview say they are fed up with this excess tire dump. The Gregg County Health Department says the state estimates there are nearly 30,000 tires there. And the county says the owner of this tire dump has spent time in jail for illegal dumping. But right now, the tire dump is in a holding pattern because of lack of funding.

"The tires are just right next to the family house, the house that I grew up in, but it's just a health hazard, and a fire hazard and we just so disappointed," said Lillie Pruitt Clough. "We just hope that somebody will be able to do something about all these tires."

"It's been an on-going problem," said Fred Killingsworth, a Gregg County Health officer. "The tire issue over there it's probably been going on for two years. I know that my partner is working on trying to get funding from the state from TCEQ for clean-up but that's slow and coming."

So Longview residents wait and hope to hear word that the clean up has begun.
