Cowboys Release Ellis

By: Joshua White

IRVING, Texas (KLTV) -- After 10 seasons, linebacker Greg Ellis and the Dallas Cowboys have officially parted ways.

Today the Cowboys officially released Ellis.

The announcement came a week after owner Jerry Jones said that the Cowboys would release Ellis if he couldn't be traded to another team.

Ellis was eighth all-time in sacks in club history, playing in 162 games and leading the Cowboys in sacks six times.

Ellis also received NFL comeback player of the year honors in 2007 after returning from a torn Achilles' tendon and recording 12 1/2 sacks in 13 games.

Ellis was drafted eighth overall by the Cowboys in 1998, and played both defensive end and linebacker. The Cowboys look to save a little over $4 million with Ellis' release.
