Kilgore Gymnasts needing community help

Kilgore, Texas (KLTV) - They are some of the best at what they do.

"We are on our way to the national championships in St. Paul, Minnesota."

And they do it all without at home court advantage, or in this case a home gym advantage.

"We are here in a skating rink and we do not have spring floors, we have mats and we do not have air conditioner or heating for the winter or summer," said Ada Wells, coach for the Kilgore Acrobatic Gymnast team, "we do not have ideal conditions to train for anything."

The Kilgore Acro Gymnast team is one of the best in the nation, but almost had no place to perform.

Until a good samaritan stepped in.

"He offered the facility here which is not condusive," said Wells, "but is the best that we can do at the time."

"As long as I can get by and continue to offer this to them then they are welcome to be here as long as they want, I am glad to offer it," said Joel Denman, the owner of InnerSkate in Kilgore, to which he donated the rink time to the gymnasts.

Now they need just a bit more help, members of the team have qualified for nationals in St. Paul, Minnesota...a trip that is not cheap.

"Now we have to start our fund-raising so that we can raise money so that they can make the trip."

And a little help from the community can go a long way..

"This would be my first nationals, and it makes me really excited," said Autumn Schara, a qualifier for nationals.
