Henderson County Jail Inmate Found Dead of Apparent Suicide

An inmate in the Henderson County Jail died after an apparent suicide.

The Sheriff's Department says 54-year-old Octavio Rodriguez of Athens died of strangulation, using a homemade device.

He was found around 5:30 p.m. Monday, less than half an hour after guards made their last cell check.

We're told Rodriguez showed no unusual behavior before his death.

He had been jailed on indecency with a child, and DWI charges.  The state will investigate the death, which is routine when an inmate dies in custody.
