TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler police searched a wooded area Thursday morning between 32nd Street and 29th Street. They are looking for the body of Johnny William Franklin, 53, who has been missing since October, 2008. Police say they received a tip his body was in the woods.

"The officers that are in there say the area is very thick and very wooded, so it's taking them quite awhile to get through there and do an accurate search," said Tyler Police Officer Don Martin.

Family members, police say, reported Franklin missing on October 21, 2008. He was last seen on October 14, 2008. At the time, police say they found Franklin's vehicle in a church parking lot located at 3009 N. Grand. The Woods police searched are located right behind the church. Police say they found no signs of foul play inside the vehicle.

Police also say Franklin is known to frequent drug houses, but they don't know if drugs played a role in his disappearance.

"If we should locate him and again more than likely he would be deceased, we will treat it as a crime scene," said Martin. "We will make sure everything is tagged, secured and photographed. We have no reason to believe that he is dead. We don't know what happened to him, so that's why we are asking for the public's help."
