LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The summer heat is settling in, and people looking to Pam McGilvra for some hot deals on inexpensive get-aways.

"The prices are lower than I've ever seen them," said Pam McGilvra.

With rock bottom prices on everything from plane tickets to tropical cruises, people aren't stuck sitting at home on a stay-caution.

"I think it's very important to get away, spend time with your family," said McGilvra.

But this year, you don't have to break the bank to relax.

"I book cruises as low as $250 to $270 a person," said McGilvra.

A traveler's tip: avoid vacationing at peak times, such as the month of June or holidays.

"They key to finding a really good deal is being flexible on your dates," said McGilvra.

"The main deal is to shop on the internet because there's so much available," said Sandy Bryan, a frequent traveler.

Besides cruising the internet for hot deals, Bryan said she finds creative ways to save.

"I've even got a discount for my Sam's membership," said Bryan. "That's more money I can spend on souvenirs."

No matter where you snag your summer travel deal, McGilvra said don't deprive yourself of a vacation.

"It makes me feel really great for someone it makes you feel really good and I always try to put myself in their shoes to try to get them the best deal," said McGilvra.
