TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It was an early Memorial Day celebration in Tyler on Sunday.
The East Texas Handbell Ensemble was sounding the bell of patriotism at the First Presbyterian Church this afternoon. Hundreds of East Texans filled the pews for the free concert.
'Hymn to Joy,' 'Amazing Grace,' and the classic song 'America' were among the patriotic tunes played at the concert.
"We just hope that they enjoy the music," said Arnold Sherman, director of ETHE. "And, deeper than that - they get something from the fact that this is american music and a concert on memorial day and we're honoring the people that have given so much to our country."
"We're just trying to bring out the patriotism that we have here in East Texas and have people come out and enjoy good music," said Gini Rainey, concert coordinator.
The ensemble has performed across the country. Their next big concert in Tyler is this Christmas.
