Just one more game: Spring Hill wants one more

By: Coleman Swierc - email

Spring Hill, Tx (KLTV) - Spring Hill softball doesn't like losing.

"Everyone hates to lose," said junior Ashley Campbell, "and one game short, we are hoping that does not happen again."

In 2008, Spring Hill was one game away.

That one game, has turned into all the fuel for this year.

"We worked hard last year, but this year we are just giving it 100% in practice, and we are not letting anything slip away," said Campbell.

"You really can't think about last year, and try and focus on this year and what needs to be done this year, but that is definitely and motivation for this year," said senior Kayla Williams, on losing in the regional finals last season.

The Lady Panthers are on the prowl again, now just two wins away from a state tournament, and just two wins from finally breaking through.

"I think it would be neat to be able to leave and know that you started something at a school that you will be known for," said Williams.

"They (the seniors) are not ever going to be able to come back and to this and say that we could have gone farther or worked harder," said sophomore Lizzie Autrey, "all of us want this so bad, and I think we can do it."

And that's what this teams wants, to set the standard for future clubs.

"It is not acceptable at all," said Campbell, "and that is great that our ball club is doing this year, and one likes just going a couple of rounds in the playoffs, at it is a good thing that we are starting that tradition."

So this time next year, next to 2008 may just be one more sign for 2009...that includes at least on more game...

The Panthers will start their three game regional semi-final series against Splendora at 7:00 on Friday from Hudson High School in Lufkin.
