High School Football Fever Catching on in Tyler

On Saturday, the Tyler Red Raiders football team will be playing a game no other team before them has played.

"We have never been past the second round til this year and we're just trying to go all of the way," says Justin Warren, Lee Defense.

And the fans supporting Lee are die-hard.

"It's awesome," says Amy Grinnell, a student. "There is school spirit here that's unparalleled. We've never had this kind of a turnout before."

The semi-final showdown against Midland High should be even more exciting than their pep rally.

"It put pep in the people who haven't had spirit before. I mean we're bringing people from all over and it is a great feeling. The kids are proud of themselves and we are proud of them," says Virginia Davis, Lee principal, school of business and management.

The Red Raiders are riding high off last weeks win against against A&M Consolidated. Parents included!

"Well it's really exciting for a lot of the parents. A lot of us are alumni of Robert E. Lee," says Lori Burch, parent.

The support is city-wide. The cheerleaders from John Tyler put the rivalry aside today to offer a "shout" of  support.

"It's like everybody coming together for one. We all want to win," says Megan.

"Tomorrow is going to be an exciting game," says Matt Flynn, Lee quarterback.

Lee fans are in agreement... "We're going to win," says senior Mara Lumley.

If the Red Raiders fans have anything to do with it, another one's gonna bite the dust, this week, the Bulldogs.
